As the collective vision of the future becomes ever bleaker and more of our society continues to opt out, we are faced with a decline that can’t be rectified by policy alone.
A good summary of what many feel. Certainly we cannot look to government or organisations to help save us from the mess that they led us into. Change must come from within each of us but too many look outside of themselves and have become reliant on being told what to do. Covid was a huge eye opener for me. I couldn’t believe how many people displayed no critical thinking skills at all.
I have more optimism however. I cannot believe that society ends this way. We are in a spiritual war - dark versus light and I believe that light wins.
I think you're right - having Universal studios here will solve it all!
Alternatively, I am more optimistic in that I know there are groups out there working on the very things you're talking about, to improve life in the UK. I know this because I'm working alongside two of them.
It absolutely can be done ✅ be happy to share more info if you're keen on being part of this!
I think that to enjoy the journey you have to be clear about the destination and why you’re going there. Pre Brexit the goal was reasonably clear, quite exciting and noble. Europe was the future and the fact that we and our children were free to live, work and travel in 30 very different countries rather joyous. The divisions of the past were behind us. We were as welcomed in Berlin as much as we were in London. And we were the lucky ones having our language as the undisputed lingua Franca of Europe.
We blew it. Despite Europe in the first half of the Twentieth century having been scarred and nearly destroyed by nationalism Britain retreated behind a Nationalist wall. We became the only country in Europe to withdraw from nearly all cooperative, transnational vehicles. Even the traditionally sovereignty protecting Swiss are now far more European than we are.
John Donne’s “No man is an island entire in itself” applies to countries as much as it does to individuals, especially in our interdependent world. It’s possible to be patriotic and culturally proud and still happily work together with people whose mores (etc.) are different from ours. We have failed our children, and their’s, by not realising this.
I think it will be difficult to find a solution to the 'rot' because far too many of people in the UK are infected with 'I am a victim' virus. You cant avoid it on Tv and social media, people bemoaning, their lack of money, others its health problems, mental health, body shape, lack of opportunity, being scammed, you name it. I have sympathy for people with real problems eg being homeless. We have lost resilience. It starts with education. We don't teach discipline and mental resilience. If a better future is possible it must start there.

Excellent site, very insightful observations that accurately inform those questioning the oligarchal establishment.
